Our History

A Legacy Forged in the Depths of the Ocean

1997

Beginning

Long before Lelo Meda Energies had a name, before it was a vision taking form, it was a story, one written in the sweat and perseverance of two men who spent their lives braving the unpredictable tides of the offshore oil and gas industry.

2000

Our fathers, two brothers bound by blood and by purpose, spent decades away from home, working tirelessly in the depths of the sea. Their hands, calloused by years of labor, were the same hands that provided for us, that lifted us high on their shoulders when they returned, exhausted but triumphant. They did not simply work in this industry, they lived it, breathed it.

2006

Their stories became our lullabies

We, Pedro and Enoc Mateus, were just boys when we first felt the weight of their legacy. The offshore life was more than a career; it was a sacred rite of passage, one that defined the rhythm of our childhood. It was the sight of duffel bags packed before yet another voyage, the metallic scent of oil lingering on their uniforms, the distant gaze in their eyes when they spoke of the ocean. And then, there were the stories, the ones told in hushed voices under the glow of a single kitchen light. Stories of danger, of teamwork, of men who became brothers in the face of towering waves and endless horizons.

Two Paths, One Calling

Enoc Mateus remained steadfast in the path laid before him. He pursued engineering with a relentless dedication, his hands shaping steel, his mind crafting solutions. His journey led him straight to the offshore world, where he built his expertise among the very men he and his cousin had admired since childhood.

Pedro Mateus, however, took a different route. Drawn by an innate passion for visual arts, he ventured beyond familiar borders, finding himself in Namibia—a country that, over time, became a second home. Immersed in creativity, he explored the worlds of storytelling and design, discovering a new way to leave his mark. It was a divergence neither of them had anticipated, a path that seemed to lead away from the industry that had shaped their lineage.

The Moment Everything Changed

When Enoc visited me in Namibia, we did what we always did—talked about our fathers, about our childhood, about the future. But this time, the conversation took a different turn. Namibia’s oil discovery was making headlines. The industry that had defined our past was about to redefine an entire nation’s future. The realization struck us like a tide returning to the shore. This was more than just another oil boom. This was our moment. A chance to take everything we had learned—every lesson passed down from our fathers, every skill we had acquired—and build something meaningful. Not just a business, but a bridge between the past and the future. And so, Lelo Meda Energies was born. Not from corporate ambition. Not from financial incentives. But from legacy, from love, from the unwavering belief that we owed it to those who came before us to continue what they started.

The Moment Everything Changed

Then, Lelo Meda Energies was born. Not out of corporate ambition. Not driven by financial incentives. But forged from legacy, from love, and from an unwavering belief that they owed it to those who came before them—to honor their fathers’ sacrifices, to carry the torch forward, and to ensure that the industry that raised them would continue to thrive for generations to come.

“Our Fathers built the foundation. We are building the future. For Namibia, for Africa and for every young dreamer who ever wandered what lies beyond the horizon”  Pedro Mateus

Our Promise

A promise to honor the sacrifices of the men who built this industry with their bare hands. A promise to give back to a sector that gave our families everything. A promise to carve a path for future generations, so that the children of today will grow up knowing that their dreams, too, can rise from the waves and touch the sky.
