Preparing the Next Generation for Namibia’s Oil and Gas Industry
Lelo Energies Student Conference 2025 (LESC25)
On 10 May 2025, Lelo Energies hosted the first Lelo Energies Student Conference (LESC25) in Windhoek to connect Namibian students and young professionals with the country’s rapidly growing energy sector.
135 total participants: 97 students (71.9%) and 39 professionals/partners from industry, government and civil society.
45.9% female participation, close to three times typical global energy sector averages.
100% completion of all eight program components.
What Participants Gained
44.5% improved clarity on energy sector career paths.
45.5% increased confidence to pursue energy careers;
42.5% felt better prepared for job applications. 47% formed at least one meaningful professional contact; 29% received informal mentorship offers. 44% better understood Namibia’s local content policy and their role in national development.
Program Highlights
Keynote: Building a career in oil and gas (value chain, role mapping, ATS‑ready CVs, hiring timelines).
Session on local content and development linking careers to Namibia’s economic goals.
Skills workshop on communication, networking and personal branding.
EduLink session on international study pathways and support.
Panel: Youth leadership in a sustainable energy future with government, industry and civil society voices.
Peer Leadership
5 Student Ambassadors drove campus outreach, referrals (25–30) and 500+ social media impressions, and collected over 40 structured feedback inputs.
13 Student Volunteers handled registration, logistics, A/V and attendee support, gaining practical event, communication and leadership experience.
Strategic Contribution
LESC25 directly supports Namibia’s National Upstream Petroleum Local Content Policy by building a more informed, work‑ready local talent base and aligns with key SDGs on education, gender equality, decent work, industry and partnerships.
